LESSON TO OTHERS }Death crash boy, 15, was a thrill seeker says mum.The youngest victim of a crash
that killed four friends had developed a thirst for the “buzz” of stealing and racing fast cars,
his mother said.
She revealed that on the night of the accident she had warned them all not to take chances.
Tom Tilleard, aged just 15, was among four people killed when a stolen Subaru Impreza ploughed into
a fish and chip shop and burst into flames in Killinghall Road, Laisterdyke, Bradford, last
Thursday.
The other three victims have been named by police as Craig James, 17, James McLuskey, 21 and Robert
Lynn, 16, all from Bradford. Today Tom’s mother Linda Tilleard, of Lapwing Close, Lower Grange,
Bradford, described how her son had “gone off the rails” in the weeks leading up to the tragedy.
She said: “My son was known to the police, but he went through the last eight months keeping
himself out of trouble.
“Then he basically went off the rails again and they got into pinching cars. The four of them got
together and were getting a buzz out of racing cars.”
Mrs Tilleard said her son and his friends would “brag” about their exploits on the computer
through the MSN chatroom.
On the evening before the early-morning collision, Mrs Tilleard issued a warning to her son – but
her words went unheeded with tragic consequences. She said: “They were all round here on the night
it happened and I told them to keep out of cars after something was mentioned about a Subaru they
had got their hands on.
“Then when I saw the news and it was four lads in a Subaru who had crashed, I knew straight away
that it was them.
Tom, who had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), had not attended mainstream school
since he was nine and was not in the habit of attending his pupil referral unit, according to his
mother.
She said: “He was a little beggar but he was well-liked. He won’t be forgotten. He was motorbike
mad really. Everyone knew him and he knew everyone all over the place – hundreds of people. He was
popular
Mr Whittaker said preliminary post-mortem examination findings showed that the cause of all fo ur
deaths was as a result of multiple injuries caused by blunt force trauma consistent with a road
traffic collision.
He said: “I am satisfied that is a tragic case where four young people lost their lives. The
causes of death seem to have been almost identical and at this stage I am satisfied there is no need
to retain the bodies further.”
Thomas, of Lapwing Close, Lower Grange, Bradford, was a student at a Pupil Referral Unit.
Robert was unemployed and lived with his parents in Arden Road, Allerton.
Craig, also unemployed, lived with his family in Wenborough Lane, Holme Wood.
Mr McCluskey, 21, lived at Harrier Close, Lower Grange. His funeral is due to take place at St
Clare's Church, Fagley Road, Bradford, on Christmas Eve. The inquest was adjourned pending further
inquiries and is expected to be resumed sometime next year.

I got you out of trouble for 8 month tom... What happened...? I no you loved cars but you would of waited two years n you could of drove all day and night... You must of hated me for getting you out of trouble for so long... But if i didn't then who would... You wouldnt listen to no-body else but me... If i didnt get you out of trouble then you would of ended up in prison... And everyone knew you wouldnt want to go there... And i didn't want you to go there... Linda (your mum) even had to come to me sometimes to get me to sort you out... I know you hate me but i knew you loved me at the same time... You loved me like no-body has loved me before... You did everything for me and i appreciate that babe... But you didn't keep you promise to me... You said you would stay out of trouble and you didn't... But tom... I forgive you... I know it was hard for you to give it up but i didn't want this to happen... I wanted to be with you forever... Jus like u said to me... I want to be with you right now tom... I miss you soo much it's unbelieveable... I don't know what to do without you... Even though we had are arguements... i still love you... Arguements made us love each other more... Remember when i said are baby will be called George coz you loved the name... Well now it will be Thomas George coz i love you... No-one can change that tom... we can only advise our children on the rights and wrongs of life, it is then up to them to make the decisions, sadly this decision cost them their lives, what a tragic waste .....may others take heed and not steal cars......
